Accelerated Reliability Testing Overview

For years TAG's Qualmark Accelerated Reliability Test Center (ARTC) has refined what are now widely considered the most effective product ruggedization, and screening techniques available: Highly Accelerated Life Testing (HALT), Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS), Highly Accelerated Stress Audit (HASA), and Accelerated Environmental Stress Screening (AccESS). TAG developed the HALT/ HASS/AccESS capability to support our own in-house production of rugged computer systems. As a Qualmark Authorized Partner Lab with a highly secured facility, TAG is able to provide these exclusive testing services to organizations with similar requirements. TAG has Qualmark trained technicians, and engineers on staff who are highly skilled HALT/HASS experts focused on providing results, not just reports.

By subjecting products to the forces delivered by six degree of freedom vibration combined with very rapid temperature changes, TAG can shorten test time, saving weeks, and months normally spent testing product by traditional methods. TAG’s team of experienced test personnel assists customers in developing, and conducting the optimal test profiles.

Customer-Defined Test Services

When customers do not wish to follow the accelerated life testing process as defined by classical HALT protocol, TAG is able to take a more selective approach to environmental testing. Customers can direct the testing process, using the temperature and/or vibration stresses available in accelerated life testing independently, or in combination.

TAG HALT - Highly Accelerated Life Test

HALT - Highly Accelerated Life Test

HALT is designed to find all possible failure modes within a test unit, and to do it in far less time than ESS (Environmental Stress Screening), burn-in, or other methods. It achieves this by combining rapid thermal temperature changes along with vibration cycles to verify designs, component specifications, and manufacturing processes that take less time to complete over traditional new product verification testing approaches. This help to shorten time to market, and improve product reliability by determining failure points during product development.


TAG HASS - Highly Accelerated Stress Screen

HASS - Highly Accelerated Stress Screen

HASS testing (Highly Accelerated Stress Screen) is an accelerated reliability screen that can reveal latent flaws not detected by ESS (Environmental Stress Screening), burn-in, and other test methods. HASS testing uses stresses beyond specification, but within the capability of the design as determined by the HALT. The combination of variable thermal and simultaneous vibration stresses, in conjunction with product specific stresses, finds those defects and marginal products that used to show up as “out of box” instant failures, and increased warranty costs. Because the stresses in HASS are more rigorous than those delivered by traditional approaches, HASS testing substantially accelerates early discovery of manufacturing process issues. Reliability engineers can then correct the variations that would otherwise lead to failures in the field and virtually eliminate shipment of defective products.


TAG Thermal Accelerated Aging

Accelerated Thermal Aging

Thermal accelerated aging is the application of precise environments to age products logarithmically. This state-of-the-art assessment tool allows TAG’s test engineers to assess product life survivability in two weeks or less. Accelerating life to a calculated time, typically less than two-weeks for a five to ten year anticipated life, allows for prototyping production units to be validated in real-time.
